Darius Garland’s sharp-shooting sets franchise record vs. Pacers
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland became the fastest player to hit 500 3-pointers in Cavs history during a 122-103 win over the Indiana Pacers, Cavs Notes announced in a Sunday tweet.
Darius Garland hit four of his six 3-point attempts against the Pacers in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Garland hit over 60% of his 3-point attempts in three of his last five games, including five of his eight shots in an 18-point win over the Houston Rockets in the Toyota Center.
Darius Garland reached the mark in 227 games played. Heat forward Duncan Robinson became the fastest player in league history to hit 500 3-pointers in a 124-107 win over the Cavaliers in Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in 2021. He hit the mark as he knocked down an open shot over forward Dean Wade. The former Michigan forward hit six of his nine 3-point attempts against the Cavs, while Wade and forward Kevin Love hit at least 60% of their 10 3-point shots, according to Basketball Reference.
The 23-year-old guard became the 10th player to make 500 3-pointers or more in a Cavs uniform, joining a list that includes Love, forward Cedi Osman and now-Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving, according to Statmuse. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James leads the list with 1,251 3-pointers, while Love is in second with 1,096. Osman racked up 590 long-range shots in his six seasons with the Cavs.
Though he had more of an off night in Indianapolis, Osman hit three of his eight 3-point attempts in just under 25 minutes played. Love did not earn any minutes in Gainbridge Fieldhouse tonight.
Darius Garland, who earned his 13th game of scoring 20 points or more since Jan. 1, said there was no extra fuel for the game on Sunday after he was not selected for the All-Star team.
“There’s no extra fuel,” he told Bally Sports Ohio sideline reporter Serena Winters. “I think I was a snub, but I’ve just got to just come out and prove it every night.”
