Donovan Mitchell, Cavs’ absurd comeback in final 24 seconds vs. Nets has fans in shock
Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers have done it again. The Cavs defeated the Brooklyn Nets for the second time in three days, with the team coming away with a 116-114 win at Barclays Center Thursday night.
The ending to that Cavs-Nets showdown will be talked about for days. The Cavs were trailing Brooklyn by four points with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation following a basket by Spencer Dinwiddie. Donovan Mitchell would later get a two-pointer to cut the deficit in half. The Cavs would make a defensive stop next before Mitchell drew a foul from Dinwiddie, sending the Cavs star to the free-throw line.
Mitchell made the first and missed the second try from the charity stripe, but got the rebound. He missed the put back but the ball would eventually find Isaac Okoro wide open in the left corner. Okoro then buried a 3-pointer to give the Cavs the lead for good with just 0.7 seconds left on the clock.
The manner in which Mitchell and company pulled off the victory has Twitter going bonkers.
Cayleigh Griffin of Bally Sports Cleveland had this to say: “ISAAC FREAKIN OKORO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Danny Cunningham of ESPN was left stunned just like everybody else: “OH MY GOD ISSAC OKORO”
Meanwhile, Twitter user @OHsVeryOwn had an NSFW reaction to Isaac Okoro’s heroics off a Donovan Mitchell miss: “ISAAC MOTHER FUCKING OKORO PUT SOME FUCKING RESPECT ON HIS NAME”
Chris Manning tweets: “What a moment for Isaac Okoro. Dude took a late game corner three calmly and stuck it. Was not doing that as recently as early this season.”
Donovan Mitchell came away with 31 points to lead the Cavs, while Evan Mobley had 26 points and 16 rebounds. Okoro’s game-winner had him finishing with 11 points.
